I call myself a specialist generalist. I don't really have a major focus in my skillset, other than general technology. I can write software, develop embedded electronics, provide friendly IT support and other IT services.
I completed a bachelor of computing at UTAS in 2012, with a games technology major.
Technology is a passion, a hobby and a professional capacity of mine. As such, I spend a lot of time with technology. Learning, making and utilising for various tasks.
I have tried to fit into the workforce, but I find that the full-time workload is too much for me. I can burn out quite quickly. Perhaps due to my broad range of interests, I am always juggling many interests and hobbies, which can keep my mind occupied, during and after work.
It is difficult to say what my best skills are, however I think I am a general problem solver. I can develop solutions for problems that involve technology. I have helped out in some obscure technical challenges in the past.
My broad range of skills keeps my busy helping various clients.
I also volunteer for Tas Game Makers, Hobart Hackerspace and Hobart Makers.
Despite my strong and overwhelming interest in tech, I understand that I need balance. I also enjoy walks, meditation, gym, park runs, bike riding, and social activities where I can catch up with like minded friends. Finding this balance is what allows me to do my best sustained work. I understand quite acutely that life balance is required for me to be able to work in IT. Being able to set my own hours, I am capable of providing this balance, which means for me my working capacity is about 2-3 full days per week of concentrated work.
The work that I have done has been highly technical and sometimes high profile. It has taken me overseas for a business trip, and on to a heritage railway for live testing. I have developed cost-effective solutions for local businesses that helped them save money instead of using off the shelf solutions.
While I am running my business most of the time, I am still open to part time IT positions. I am quite happy to discuss opportunities.
In the mean time, it has been a unique experience to grow my business. To find new clients, run new projects and initiatives. A skill that maybe doesn't come naturally, but is growing on me.
